About Us
Hi my name is Jodi, and I Welcome You to Up Stream Girl !
Why did I found Up Stream Girl?
I am the mother of 3 children (soon to be 4), two of whom are daughters. When my oldest daughter turned seven years old, it started to become very difficult to find longer skirts (especially denim), clothing that didn’t have inappropriate sayings on them, decent swimsuits, etc.. However, like many mothers, I still wanted my girls to dress modest, sweet and innocent. I also wanted them to wear clothes that were cute and in style. After many long months of searching without success, I decided to start Up Stream Girl.
Since we founded our store, many mothers have expressed their joy in finding a “safe” place to shop. They’ve told me that they have had similar frustrations to mine while shopping at the malls. Some of these mothers have spent many hours driving around looking at numerous clothing stores without success. They are so relieved and excited when they find Up Stream Girl, because now they can find the cute, sweet, modest clothing and swimwear that they have been looking for.
Let’s face it; just going to the mall can be a painful experience. If the sights, sounds, parking and traffic don’t drive you crazy, the fashions will. My husband once made the comment to me that he feels like he should have blinders on as he walks through the mall, just to avoid looking at some of the sights. Our faith teaches us that we are made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26) and as such we have infinite value. The clothing that our children wear should reflect the dignity that God has bestowed upon us. Unfortunately, many of today’s fashions don’t accomplish this. On the bright side, Up Stream Girl is working to offer clothing that shows the precious value of our girls and that will make both mothers and daughters happy.
The purity and innocence of our girls doesn’t have to be lost as they get older.
Girls and women feel better about themselves when they dress up. Being a sweet girl is something we should never grow out of. Today’s ultra-casual fashions have their place, but they also tend to limit the feeling of dignity and beauty that girls feel when they dress up. Our approach is simple enough; we want our girls to dress in the latest fashions, but to specifically select fashions that are stylish and modest. Modesty, but with today’s fashion; fun and cool colors, new fabrics, and great styles.
Our Guiding Principles & Standard of Modesty:
One of our guiding principles is that the clothes a girl wears should make them look and feel beautiful without sacrificing their dignity, natural beauty, purity and innocence in the process.
Another of our guiding principles is based on the following quote which provides a great general standard for modesty. It was given by the Cardinal Vicar of Pope Pius XI: “A dress cannot be called decent which is cut deeper than two fingers’ breadth under the pit of the throat; which does not cover the arms at least to the elbows; and scarcely reaches a bit beyond the knees. Furthermore, dresses of transparent material are improper.”
We have adopted a slightly modified version of this standard in an attempt to appeal to our current culture. We currently sell shirts with at least a cap sleeve, shirts with a neckline 2 to 4-fingers down from the pit of the throat, and skirts that cover the knees. We also want to promote clothing that is not tight fitting, but rather has a proper fit.

I invite you to join me on this journey to protect our children from the trends that have overtaken our culture. There are many more strong parents out there than it may appear at times, and this is a great way for all of us to come together. With God’s grace, we can set our whole culture back on the right path.
God Bless!
